The Voice

I have ridden the waves of the sands of time

stared into the unblinking eyes of thine

there is no recognition there, but dark

The terrifying vastness blank and stark

look within to find one’s light, I need you

Don’t succumb to the hustler’s plight, push through

I have never seen such beauty within

you should sing angels your melodies

Brown-skinned orchestras, messy-haired music

Believe in yourself as I believe in you

honor Horne with that voice and your talents

The dark will fade and unclench its fists

The voice will blast away darkness

I have seen this
