The Grand Old Party (GOP) gathered at the Dyker Heights Beach Golf Course, 1030 7th Avenue this past week in celebration of the holiday season and, of course, paid homage to their leader, President Donald Trump.
Needless to say, the beach was farthest from the night that collaborated politicians near and far. On a cold winter’s night, the fireplace warmed the room, as former State Sen. Martin Golden took to the podium and while he was mum on possible plans to take on State Sen. Andrew Gournardes in a rematch for the senate seat next year, he did say more Republicans are needed in the House, and added that the economy has never been better.
“We have more jobs in the history of the United States because of President Trump,” he said.
Golden then introduced Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (D-Bay Ridge, Statin Island), who will be running in 2020 against Brooklyn native U.S. Rep. Max Rose (D-Southern Brooklyn, Staten Island). Malliotakis is eager to get into office and fight what she called the great fight for Republicans.
Malliotakis also said she fully supports Michael Tannousis, the GOP candidate vying against Democrat Brandon Patterson for her soon-to-be-vacant assembly seat.
On the other side of town, the Bay Ridge Democrats on Wednesday held their annual holiday celebration. The Democrats joined forces at Patsy’s Restaurant, 8814 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge with City Councilmember Justin Brannan (D-Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach) holding court. Among those in attendance were Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and City Councilmember Mark Treyger (D-Coney Island, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend).
Brannan told King County Politics, “We are getting out there to ensure that we get Andrew Gounardes, Max Rose, and all of our local officials re-elected in congress.” Treyer expressed, “I am here to support Councilman Brannan and colleagues who galvanized and organized this community here in Southern Brooklyn, supporting great solid candidates and supporting extraordinary causes.”
The Bay Ridge Democrats soiree happened to be the same night that Trump was impeached. Most attendees expressed that they were not surprised while others joyfully smiled with a sense of victory splashed across their faces.
