Brandon Patterson, a Democratic candidate for the 64th Assembly District, announced the first union endorsement of his campaign from the United Auto Workers (UAW) this morning.
“I’m so excited to receive the endorsement of the UAW in my campaign for the Assembly. UAW stood up for workers around the country, and they know they’ll have a fighter for workers in New York when I’m in the Assembly,” Patterson said.
“To have such a diverse group of workers be my first union endorsement means so much in this campaign as we work to make sure the voices of all residents are heard. Strong unions are so important to workers in our state, and I’ll fight to ensure that the right to join a union is protected. I thank the UAW and look forward to fighting for their members in Albany.”
Patterson was the first to announce his candidacy for the 64th Assembly District representing the South Shore of Staten Island and the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. He was raised in a hard-working, middle-class, union family. Patterson has a unique background in politics working for State Sen. Diane Savino (D-Coney Island, Sunset Park, Staten Island) – first as a community liaison and currently as her Deputy Chief of Staff.
“UAW Region 9a is very excited to announce our endorsement of Brandon Patterson for Assembly in the 64th District. This early endorsement was an easy decision for our New York Community Action Program Council,” said Beverley Brakeman, Regional Director at UAW.
“We have been in the trenches with Brandon and have seen him work effectively with members on both sides of the aisle to assist in getting good legislation passed in Albany,” Brakeman continued. “Brandon’s experience and work ethic will be an asset to the New York State Assembly and his district, because he will be able to hit the ground running from day one. Our members look forward to working with Brandon after he wins the seat in November of 2020.”
