Sanders Jr. to Host Free HVAC Training
State Sen. James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) is partnering with NYSERDA and Tauris Tech to host a Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program in the Rockaways.
Upon completion of the program, students will receive a EPA 608 Universal Technician Certification. This will be a hands-on program where students may have the potential to gain immediate employment. The course is FREE and open to High School seniors, individuals who have a H.S. Diploma or G.E.D.
The HVAC program will take place for 6 weeks, starting on Friday, Nov. 8.

Addabbo Reflects on Superstorm Sandy’s Seventh Anniversary
State Sen. Joseph Addabbo Jr. (D-Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth, parts of South Ozone Park, Ridgewood, Woodside, The Rockaways) yesterday reflected on Superstorm Sandy, which happened seven years ago yesterday, ripping through such Queens communities like the Rockaways, Broad Channel and Howard Beach leaving a path of destruction in its wake.
“Houses were flooded, businesses were shut down, and many people lost everything they worked their entire lives for. Even facing this disaster, we all came together as a community and helped each other rebuild through this extremely difficult time. And while today is a day to remember what this storm took from us, it is also a time to look at how far we have come since that day. We have helped hundreds of people rebuild their homes and businesses, and regain stability in their lives,” said Addabbo.
“However, more work still needs to be done. We need to get to a point where we measure a storm’s effect not by years, but merely hours. To be prepared, not scared, of an impending storm. We must remain vigilant to ensure our communities are protected from future storms, so we do not have to feel the despair we felt in 2012 ever again. I look forward to working with officials on the city, state and federal levels in order to get us to that point,” he added.
Katz To Hold Regular Land Use Public Hearing
Queens Borough President Melinda Katz tomorrow will hold her regular Land Use public hearing.

An application submitted on behalf of White Castle System, Inc., for a Special Permit to allow an eating and drinking establishment with an accessory drive-thru within a C1-2/R4 District in Queens Community District 3 at 88-02 Northern Boulevard in Jackson Heights.
Am application submitted on behalf of White Castle System, Inc., for a Special Permit to allow an eating and drinking establishment with an accessory drive-thru facility within a C1-2/R6 District in Queens Community District 4 at 89-03 57th Avenue in Elmhurst.
An application submitted on behalf of HW LIC One LLP for a Special Permit to allow a building in an R6/C2-3 District in Queens Community District 2 that exceeds the maximum height allowable in the flight obstruction path area for LaGuardia Airport. The site is located at 51-22 Roosevelt Avenue in Woodside.
The hearing is slated for 10:30 a.m., tomorrow, Oct. 31 at Queens Borough Hall, 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens.
Cuomo Announces Opening Of New LaGuardia Airport Gate
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo yesterday announced the opening of the first new concourse and gates at Delta Air Lines’ new Terminal C as part of the ongoing $8 billion transformation of LaGuardia into a unified 21st century airport.
This opening is the latest milestone in the complete rebuild of LaGuardia Airport, which will provide a world-class passenger experience featuring modern customer amenities, state-of-the-art architecture, more spacious gate areas and a connected terminal system.
The seven new gates in the Delta concourse, on the far eastern side of the airport, will start serving passengers – running 60 flights per day to Boston, Chicago and Washington, DC – on Monday, November 4..
“The opening of the first new concourse at Terminal C is a major milestone that takes us one step closer to transforming LaGuardia Airport into a global gateway worthy of this state,” Cuomo said. “We’re building the nation’s first completely new airport in 25 years and showing the nation and the world that you can be ambitious and get big things done. At the end of the day, the new LaGuardia Airport will provide a world-class passenger experience with state-of-the art terminals and concourses like the one we’re in today, new roadways and improved traffic flow, and 50 percent more tarmac space to reduce gate delays.”
When complete, the new terminal will feature 37 gates across four concourses connected by a centralized and streamlined check-in lobby, security checkpoint and baggage claim; dual taxiways that will help reduce gate congestion and taxi times; a new, larger Delta Sky Club with a Sky Deck; larger gate areas and more concession space; and more efficient airport roadways.
Van Bramer Names New Parkland In Honor Of Firefighter
City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer (D-Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside) yesterday joined Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver and Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro to officially name a newly acquired parkland after Lieutenant Michael Davidson who died on March 23rd, 2018 in the line of duty.
The officials also celebrated the acquisition and naming of new parkland in Sunnyside/Woodside.
The new park is located at 50th Street & 39th Avenue in Woodside.
