Democratic District Leader Josh Pierre, who is challenging State Sen. Kevin Parker (D-East Flatbush, Flatbush, Midwood, Ditmas Park, Kensington, Park Slope, Windsor Terrace) in next years primary for the senate seat, has an uncanny political ability to cross many lines.
Pierre is a member of what some call the Haitian Kennedy clan, which includes cousins Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte (Flatbush, Ditmas Park) and political operative Sam Pierre – and by proxy City Councilwoman Farah Louis (East Flatbush, Flatbush, Flatlands, Marine Park, Midwood).
Something of a political darling among the Park Slope end of the Senate district, Pierre, who is openly gay, grew up in the working-class East Flatbush and Flatbush section of the senatorial district. Thus, while he strikes the right tone on key progressive issues such as renters’ rights, the green new deal and healthcare, he also understands the importance of small business growth and homeownership – something progressives often loathe to address.
With Pierre’s appearance on our [Un] Correct New York podcast, we do hope to have Parker on as well in the near future to give him equal time.
But for now, check out this week’s conversation with Josh Pierre.
