Queens County Dems Hold 17th Annual Senior Appreciation Month
U.S. Rep. and Queens County Democratic Party Chair Gregory Meeks, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and a number of Queens elected officials today will announce their month-long series of celebratory events for local seniors in recognition of their value to the community.
Among the electeds scheduled to appear include City Council Members I Daneek Miller, Adrienne Adams, Donovan Richards, Barry Grodenchik, and Rory Lancman; State Senators Leroy Comrie, James Sanders, Jr., and John Liu; and Assembly Members Vivian Cook, Michelle Titus, Alicia Hyndman, and Clyde Vanel.
The event is slated for 10 a.m. – 12 Noon, Today, Sept. 6 at the Roy Wilkins Park (Gymnasium), 177-01 Baisley Boulevard in Jamaica.
Van Bramer Extends School Supplies Drive
City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer (D-Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside) is extending his 10th Annual Back to School Supplies Drive through Wednesday, September 11.
Among the items the drive is collecting include pens, pencils, backpacks, lunch boxes, binders, paper, rulers, calculators, markers, protractors, highlighters, crayons, or any other items that will be useful to children.
Supplies can be brought from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Van Bramer’s district office, 47-01 Queens Boulevard, Suite 205 in Sunnyside or dropped off at any of the following Queens Public Library Locations:
- Sunnyside Library, 43-06 Greenpoint Avenue, Sunnyside
- Woodside Library, 54-22 Skillman Avenue, Woodside
- Long Island City Library, 37-44 21st Street, Long Island City
- Court Square Library, 25-01 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City
- Broadway Library, 40-20 Broadway, Long Island City
Addabbo Brings Mobile Office To Middle Village
State Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth, parts of South Ozone Park, Ridgewood, Woodside, The Rockaways) is bringing his Mobile Office Hours to Middle Village this September as a way to continue his commitment to personally assisting as many constituents as he can.
“I understand that it may be difficult for some residents to make it into one of my three district offices during normal business hours,” Addabbo said. “Which is why I have held my Mobile Office Hours events since I was elected to the Senate in 2008. I strongly believe it is my obligation as an elected official to make sure I interact with the residents and civic leaders of the communities I represent. I encourage anyone who wants to speak with me to come to one of these events throughout the year.”
The next mobile office is slated for between 5:30 – 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Middle Village branch of the Queens Public Library, 72-31 Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village.
