AM Williams Hosts Jamaica Bay Greenway & Plumb Beach Clean Up
Assembly member Jaime Williams (D-Canarsie, Georgetown, Mill Basin, Marine Park, Bergen Beach, Gerritsen Beach) hosted a clean up initiative over the weekend for the Jamaica Bay Greenway and Plumb Beach.
The event was held alongside the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, the American Littoral Society, the National Parks Conservation Association and the National Park Service as the first park clean up of 2019.
Plumb Beach, is known for amassing small trash, like plastic bottles and straws, and refuse from inbound currents and tides, which needs regular clean up. Williams a staunch environmentalist braved the cold and wet sandy dunes with so many others to remove the bane of the wetlands, plastics and refuse.
The Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy is a not for profit organization that prides itself on the importance of maintaining the local wetlands and environment.
“Our wetlands play such vital function in our environment and to allow them to not have the needed cleanliness is detrimental to all. After all it is not only this generation’s planet but our children’s and grandchildren’s and the next generation thereafter, cleaning up is the least we can do”, said Williams.
