The One Caucasus Festival is a music and art festival held every August in the Republic of Georgia that brings youth from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and all around the world together to build peace and understanding in the region. They bring musicians, artists and volunteers from all around the world, including Brooklyn, to a small rural region called Kvemo Kartli where they play, create, teach and inspire the local citizens.
The founders are reaching out to the international community because the government has severely cut their funding. As such, they are looking for people to make small contributions to keep this wonderful project going.
I highly support this project because one of my best friends – a lifelong Brooklynite – is part of it. I also come from a music/literature/art backround before getting involved in journalism. The festival uses the arts to create understanding in the Caucasus, and understanding the arts of another culture goes a long ways towards international understanding.
Additionally, Brooklyn is a diaspora of all peoples from around the world, and we have many people from the Caucasus living here who would love our support of their homeland.
