More than 100 seniors gathered in Fort Greene on Wednesday at the Shirley A. Chisholm State Office Building, 55 Hanson Place, to celebrate Valentine’s Day with Brooklyn elected officials.
The event was City Councilwoman and Council Majority Leader Laurie A. Cumbo (D-Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights) and Assemblyman Walter T. Mosley’s (D-Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights) Second Annual Senior Valentine’s Day Brunch, presented by was held to thank the matriarchs and patriarchs of the community for the unconditional love and support that they have provided year-round.
Also participating in the event was Kings County District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
Participants were treated to a special brunch catered by Tom’s Restaurant and students of M.S. 113 – Ronald Edmonds Learning Center providing musical performances.
“There are not enough days in a year set aside to express our love and affection for the wisest amongst
us. I am proud to represent and serve the same village that was instrumental in who I am today as a
woman, mother, and public servant,” said Cumbo.
I am forever indebted to our seniors for the tremendous sacrifices that they made to create the opportunities for future generations. Our gratitude is incomparable to the contributions that they have made in their lifetime,” she added.
Mosley thanked Cumbo and her entire staff as being the lead organizers for the luncheon, and also thanked the involvement of Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and State Sen. Velmanette Montgomery [away in Washington DC and Albany] for supporting and sponsoring the luncheon for seniors.
“And a special thanks to our seniors who attended. I thank G-d I have people like you, who through my peaks and valleys, are always there to make sure our office remain headstrong and steadfast as we continue serve you to the best of our abilities. On this Valentine’s Day I want to say I love you, and I thank you for allowing me to serve you in the New York State Assembly,” said Mosley.
