Assemblymember Kim Speaks Out In Support Of Kevin Liang’s Family

Assemblymember Ron Kim/Facebook

After the hit-and-run incident on Sept. 30 that left Kevin Liang, an FDNY EMT, dead, Assemblymember Ron Kim (D-Flushing, Murray Hill) joined the Chinese Action Network, community leaders, and the Liang family to call for support and justice.

The investigation to find who was driving the SUV that hit Liang on the Koscuizko Bridge while he was riding his motorcycle to his girlfriend’s house to celebrate his birthday and promotion to become a firefighter is still going on.

The Liang family announced a $25,000 reward for any information that would lead to the arrest of the driver.

“Kevin was a bright young man with a great future ahead of him, an EMT worker who was in the process of becoming a city firefighter. I ask that our mayor and the NYPD do their utmost to ensure this case is systematically and thoroughly investigated. He was killed on the new Koscuizko bridge, a state-of-the-art $555 million infrastructure project, right before the old one was brought down, and yet after three weeks there has been no conclusive evidence or footage to identify his killer. I am also asking the public to come forward – we need your help. If you have seen or heard anything please contact the proper authorities so that his family can finally reach some form of closure,” said Kim.

Pheffer Amato Meets With Experts To Reduce Plane Noise In Broad Channel

Assemblymember Stacey Pheffer Amato

Last Friday, Assemblymember Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Broad Channel) met with the Federal Aviation Administration, the Port Authority, and Broad Channel Civic Association President Dan Mundy, Jr. at her office to work up ways to reduce airplane noise in Broad Channel.

Broad Channel, near JFK Airport, sits directly under the paths of innumerable flights. The number of complaints from residents suggests that the daily overhead flights are increasing, according to Pheffer Amato.

“This isn’t just some homeowners with nothing to complain about,” said Pheffer Amato.  “Airplanes departing from JFK do very low overflies of Broad Channel, at all hours of the day and night.  Community members suffer from disrupted sleep, windows and foundations rattling, and a lower quality of life.  The federally-mandated, Part 150 noise study for JFK is supposed to take into account public input, but we’ve raised this issue before and we need a demonstration that the FAA cares about the concerns of this community.  We appreciate them and the Port Authority sitting down with us to discuss the issue.  Everyone went home with some homework.  We’re hoping the flight routing out of JFK stops being needlessly intrusive by taking advantage of these much-hyped new technologies,” said Pheffer Amato.
