U.S. Representative Hakeem Jeffries (D-Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Bed-Stuy, Brownsville, East New York, Canarsie, Mill Basin, Coney Island, South Ozone Park and Howard Beach), a member of House Democratic leadership and the Budget Committee, today exposed the newest front in the Republican war on the middle class.
Jeffries said in the recent budget, Republicans plan to give billions of dollars in unneeded tax breaks to the 1% and pay for it on the backs of hardworking Americans. It would destroy the social safety net that saves millions of American families from plummeting into the abyss of poverty and starvation, and would rip away life-saving healthcare from 23 million American children and adults, he said.
