If high profile local endorsements is any indication then David Schwartz, the young upstart running for the Democratic District Leader of the 48th Assembly (Boro Park) district has a bright future before him.

Schwartz, 22, a Chasid, originally from Williamsburg, has long been a solid presence at many political gatherings across the borough. So, perhaps with that in mind, when current district leader, Assemblyman Dov Hikind decided to give up the unpaid leadership role, he handed it off to Schwartz, who worked as his assistant communications director.

After his election tomorrow as the only candidate on the ballot, Schwartz will become both the borough’s youngest Democratic District leader ever and Brooklyn’s first Hasidic Democratic district leader since Rabbi Izzy Rosenfeld was a Crown Heights district leader in the early 1980s.

While the move was first met with resistance among some in Boro Park’s political circles, they almost all have relented to give Schwartz a chance at the position. This includes City Councilman David Greenfield, who was rumored to be weighing a write-in campaign against Schwartz, but who sources say now has given Schwartz his blessing.
