The Dysfunctional 41st Assembly District
Things got so out of hand in the petition objections hearing for the female Democratic District in the 41st Assembly District between incumbent Laurie Garson and challenger Lori Maslow that State Civil Court Judge Edgar Walker had to halt the hearing, a Board of Election source said.
Garson, wife of the disgraced former Judge Michael Garson, who was pled his way out of jail in 2008 for trying to fleece more than $600,000 from his elderly aunt, came in with 507 signatures on her petition – a measly seven more signatures than the 500 needed to get on the ballot.
Challenger Maslow, wife of of noted election attorney Aaron Maslow, took the matter to court and in the process of going over each signature – line by line- the debate turned so heated and loud that Walker had to halt the hearing with the matter left undecided for now.
Garson is also the sister-in-law to male Democratic District leader and former City Councilman Lew Fidler, but sources say they had a falling out and haven’t spoken to each other in years.
Meanwhile, Aaron and Lori Maslow are the parents of Sam Maslow, who admitted to a KCP reporter in March that he was looking to unseat longtime 41st District Assembly Member Helene Weinstein.
The district includes Sheepshead Bay, Midwood, Flatlands, Canarsie and East Flatbush.

Adams Hosts 3rd International Day of Friendship
Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams announced that he will proclaim this Sunday as “International Day of Friendship” in Brooklyn, his third annual celebration recognizing the hundreds of cultures and ethnicities that make Brooklyn an unparalled center of diversity.
As the signature event in Adams’ “Embrace Your Hyphen” campaign that celebrates Americans who honor their diversity, the day will consist of a series of cultural identity-oriented festivities that begins at 1.p.m. with a Unity Parade of Flags, featuring the flags of 195 nations.
The march will travel down Fulton Street from its intersection with Flatbush Avenue toward Brooklyn Borough Hall. Following the march, New Yorkers from more than 80 countries will celebrate until 5 p.m. at Brooklyn Borough Hall and Columbus Park in Cadman Plaza.
The event will feature a series of cultural and artistic performances from a wide variety of groups represented in the borough, as well as a taste of international cuisine.
“I call on all Brooklynites to ‘Embrace Your Hyphen’ as Americans with distinct heritage,” said Adams. “International Day of Friendship reflects the beauty of a borough where 47 percent of households speak a language other than English at home, more than one-third of residents were born overseas, and the sounds of many different languages are the music of our street corners. I invite everyone to stand with me in our diversity as One Brooklyn.”
