Kagan Not Running For Assembly

Popular Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach Democratic Assembly District Leader Ari Kagan announced this week he will not challenge Assembly Member Steven Cymbrowitz in the upcoming 45th Assembly District Primary.

“After careful and serious consideration, after many conversations with my family and closest friends, I made a decision to close my exploratory committee – Ari Kagan for New York. I will run this year for re-election as Democratic District Leader in 45th Assembly District, but I will not run for a higher position,” Kagan wrote on Facebook.

“I am very grateful for the support and encouragement I received all over 45th district, but I feel that this decision is the right one for my family and my community. In the next few weeks I will focus my energy and attention on making sure my friend and co-leader Margarita Kagan and myself will be re-elected to our current District Leader positions.

“After that process will be over, I am planning to return to my very important job at the Office of NYC Comptroller.”

Kagan’s popular Bay Democrats political club will host the last monthly meeting before summer break at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, at 2508 Coney Island Avenue, 2nd floor, corner of Avenue V.

Cumbo On Arrest In Fatal Shooting Of Cary Gabay

City Council Member Laurie A. Cumbo (Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights) released the following statement after the NYPD made an arrest on Thursday in the fatal shooting of 43-year-old Carey Gabay, a former aide to Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Gabay was fatally shot during J’Ouvert, the festive night before the West Indian Day Labor Parade.

“Through great police work and community involvement, we have always been able to come together to keep our communities safe. From the peace rally to the street co-naming ceremony, we have continued to raise awareness around the senseless gun violence that took the life of Carey Gabay.

“As Council Member of the 35th District, I have been working with the de Blasio Administration, Council Members Jumaane D. Williams and Vanessa L. Gibson to create a Mayor’s Office to End Gun Violence. Incidents like this have proven the need for a dedicated response to all forms of gun violence across the City of New York.

“After eight months of unanswered questions, the NYPD has apprehended the first of many suspects, which I hope will bring closure to his family, friends, colleagues, and community.”
