Brooklyn GOP Smells Blood In The Political Waters

With Mayor Bill de Blasio on the ropes in a widening federal and city investigation surrounding political corruption allegations, Brooklyn Republicans are smelling blood in the political waters.

And the message at Tuesday’s Republican Social at The Gather Inn, 2718 Gerritsen Avenue in Gerritsen Beach, was that it’s time for the Party to find a candidate for mayor to rally around for mayor as well as several candidates for city council seats in next year’s citywide elections.

Guardian Angels President and radio show personality Curtis Sliwa was the guest speaker and he rallied the GOP troops to organize in every community including in housing projects and communities of color that traditionally vote Democratic.

The Republicans should not give any ground in these communities because the Democrats have done nothing for them there, Sliwa said.

Kings County Republican Party Co-Chair Ted Ghorra thanked Sliwa for talking at the well-attended event.

“He was talking about local issues crime, street conditions, housing, the cost of living, things that really relate to people and we need to urge people in the Republican Party in Brooklyn and citizens in general and independents and other people to get involved. We’re willing to work with everybody  to move  not just our party, but the city in the right direction and we’re  doing things like these socials, which are not fundraisers,” said Ghorra.

“You don’t have to come and donate money. This one was in Gerritsen Beach, but we’ll be having them in Bay Ridge, Canarsie, Bensonhurst, and we’re going to do other places as well. We’re all just people. We’re all citizens. We all want a better life for ourselves and we all want a better neighborhood borough, city, state and federal government that works for all of us  and really everything starts on this grassroots level,” he added.

Also at the meeting, popular Bay Ridge Conservative Party figure Liam McCabe said he is seriously considering running for the term-limited City Councilman Vincent gentile’s seat next year. McCabe has worked on several Republican candidates’ campaigns and currently works for Southern Brooklyn/Staten Island Congressman Dan Donovan.
