Party Unity was a key theme as the Kings County Conservative Party held an event at the Bay Ridge Manor yesterday with the elections just around the corner.
To start things off, Ray Aalbue was presented with the Ronald Reagan Americanism Award. Representing his St. Ephrem’s Parish, the veteran and civic leader spoke about the profound impact that the name of the award beholds.
“It is a true honor to get an award named after President Ronald Reagan who was such an influential leader for our party. This really means a lot to me,” said Aalbue.
Liam McCabe, founder of the Brooklyn South Conservative Club and Mike Long, Chairman of the Conservative Party for New York also gave speeches where they spoke about the importance of getting out the vote. The clock is ticking and they need to take advantage of every chance that they get to spread the word. Throughout the afternoon, there was heavy promotion for the Memorial Day Parade held in the heart of Bay Ridge, with a 21 gun salute, where the Conservatives feel that this will be a golden opportunity to instill party pride and pick up some momentum in the polls, on both local and national level.
Finally, Wendy Long, the litigation attorney with a strong influence within the party was one of main speakers. Long made it crystal clear that she is ready to take on Chuck Schumer for the U.S. Senate seat this year. She told the crowd that change is needed immediately and she is the one that can deliver. And Long let it be known that she is not going to back down. Her speech was not so much focused on the negativity that Schumer is spreading in New York, but instead, it focused on the positive outlook that her campaign is built upon.
On the national scene, the unity of the Republican Party has vanished. And the same can probably be said for the Democrats. Yet in Brooklyn yesterday there was a kindred sense of camaraderie.
That bond was felt the moment this reporter walked into the Bay Ridge Manor. From Mike Long, to State Senator Marty Golden and to the pride of OLA, Liam McCabe, you get the sense that these men really do care for one another. And they care about their neighborhood. This affection is not for show. Many of them are family, who have grown up right here in Brooklyn, going to church and playing ball together. Now, after all these years they’re still breaking bread. And while they fight for change, there are many aspects about their old school Brooklyn way of life that they are fighting for dear life to hold on to.
What the members of the Conservative Party here in Brooklyn all have in common is that they all uphold a deep-rooted passion to help make change. Whether you are a part of their team or not, there is no denying the sense of togetherness right now within the Kings County Conservative Party.
