Southern Brooklyn Assembly Members Steven Cymbrowitz (Sheepshead Bay, Midwood, Manhattan Beach, Gravesend, Brighton Beach) and William Colton (Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend) yesterday they had succeeded in getting a $3 million state allocation for the Marlboro Houses in Gravesend.

The two lawmakers, who share representation of the 28-building New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) complex, made the joint announcement at the Marlboro Senior Center before an audience of residents, including members of the Marlboro Tenant Association.

The $3 million — $1.5 million from each Assembly member – will be used for new stoves and refrigerators along with picnic and recreation area upgrades, including a new basketball court.

“It was a pleasure to work with Assemblyman Colton for the betterment of all the people of Marlboro,” Cymbrowitz said. “These funds will enable residents to receive new stoves and refrigerators and will improve outdoor areas so that everyone who lives here enjoys a better quality of life. Many thanks to Governor Cuomo for directing funds toward these enhancements and also to Assembly Speaker Heastie, whose hard work and advocacy made this funding for Marlboro possible.”

“I would like to thank Governor Cuomo and Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz for helping get this grant together to help the Marlboro Houses,” said Colton. “With the new plans, old appliances throughout the housing facility will be upgraded, which will help improve the daily lives of many of the seniors, working families, and children who live there. In addition, the plan for a new basketball court is a great addition to the recreation for the residents.”

The Marlboro funds were made possible by a 2015 statute that allocated $100 million from JP Morgan settlement funds for a public housing modernization and improvement program for 193 NYCHA housing developments.

Marlboro Houses is bounded by Avenue V, Avenue X, 86th Street and Stillwell Avenue. The complex includes 1,765 apartments.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams today will personally offer a reward for information leading to the arrest of an armed robber who attacked a 91-year-old woman yesterday at her home in Park Slope.

The elderly victim, who has lived in the same building for 45 years, was reportedly shoved into her vestibule and choked repeatedly by the mugger, who pointed a gun at her and her 50-year-old neighbor; the two victims were robbed of about $370.

Police are also investigating this crime in connection with a home invasion last month in the same neighborhood, where an attacker reportedly pistol-whipped a 71-year-old woman and stole hundreds of dollars from her. Standing a short distance from the victim’s apartment,  Adams will urge the community to be vigilant about the safety of senior citizens.

Adams will make the announcement at 11:30 a.m., today on the corner of 9th Street and Prospect Park West.

Adams will then go to Brownsville and meet up with Deputy Mayor Richard Buery to leaflet along Pitkin Avenue to reach families and community about the Pre-K for All application deadline extension to Wednesday, March 9, giving parents more time to find a program that fits their family’s needs.

All New York City families with a child born in 2012 are eligible to apply to pre-K for the 2016-17 school year; families can complete the single application process online at nyc.gov/prek, over the phone at (718) 935-2067, or in person at a Family Welcome Center.

A recent independent evaluation found that 92 percent of families surveyed rated their Pre-K for All program as excellent or good, and 83 percent of families said their child learned “a lot” in pre-K.

The leafletting is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Pitkin and Rockaway avenues.

Donovan Welcomes De Blasio To Washington

Southern Brooklyn Congressman Dan Donovan, Chair of the House Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications, and the City’s only Republican House representative, said he looks forward to Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio’s testimony before the subcommittee on March 15 concerning President Obama’s proposed homeland security funding cuts.

The normally partisan de Blasio recently was critical of the cuts as was U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer among several other Brooklyn lawmakers.

“Nothing – especially not partisan politics – should stand in the way of defending against terror attacks. Congressional bipartisanship prevailed in our fight to provide 9/11 first responders with health care and screenings. I expect a similar display of cooperation in ensuring vulnerable cities get the security resources they need. Mayor de Blasio runs the city that is the world’s top terror target, and I look forward to hearing his testimony,” said Donovan.
