The importance of affordable housing and the de Blasio administration’s investments in the manufacturing sector in Brooklyn — particularly in The Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn Army Terminal and Industry City were the main topics that Deputy Mayor of Housing & Economic Development Alicia Glen covered this morning at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerces’ latest installment of its Newsmakers Breakfast Series.

The event which in the past has featured such keynote speakers as City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, and Public Advocate Letitia James, drew a full house of civic leaders and elected officials.

“Brooklyn has grown into an incredible ecosystem of innovators, manufacturers, makers and institutions,” said Glen. “It’s a vibrant economic success story, and we are so excited about its next chapter. We’re focused on driving growth across diverse industries and making sure Brooklynites really have an opportunity to plug into the good jobs being created across the borough. We’re proud to partner with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and this morning was a fantastic chance for us to connect directly with the firms, employers and entrepreneurs that make Brooklyn so great.”

Brooklyn Chamber President & CEO Carlo A. Scissura said that Deputy Mayor Glen has done an incredible job working to foster economic growth throughout the city.

“The administration has made major investments in Brooklyn, including efforts to expand the Brooklyn Army Terminal, Brooklyn Navy Yard, and Industry City, which have strengthened the borough’s economy and provided quality jobs to countless residents. I would like to thank the Deputy Mayor for being a part of Brooklyn Newsmakers and for the marvelous work she has done, and will undoubtedly continue to do, for our city,” said Scissura.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams stressed the importance of the Brooklyn Newsmakers breakfast in that it connects the borough with the influential movers and shakers that are making a lasting impact on residents and businesses.

“I thank Deputy Mayor Glen for sharing the City’s development vision with Brooklyn at this latest event, and I thank the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce for their continued leadership on this series,” Adams said.
