Greenfield Softball Classic: Shomrim Even Series With NYPD
The Borough Park Shomrim scored eight runs in the first inning and went on to cruise to 25-5 slugfest win over members of NYPD’s 66th Precint in the sixth annual Greenfield Classic softball game between the two squads.
The win evened the annual end-of-the-summer series, which Borough Park City Councilman David Greenfield sponsors, at three victories each setting the stage for the rubber match next year.
“Everyone had a great time at this year’s Greenfield Classic. I started this event six years ago to recognize the hard work that our local heroes do to protect us and the unique cooperation between the NYPD and the Shomrim. Here in Brooklyn we love the NYPD and we are grateful to our Shomrim volunteers. Congratulations to the Borough Park Shomrim for tying up the series. I can’t wait until next year’s game to see who pulls ahead,” said Greenfield.
Hundreds of people came out to watch the contest at the beautiful St. A’s sports complex on 20th Avenue between 53rd and 54th Street. NYPD’s highest ranking uniformed officer, Chief of Department James O’Neill, threw out the first pitch.
Thanks to Klein’s Ice Cream and Greenfield, there were free ices and snacks for the many onlookers who came out to support the community.

MRNY Applauds DA Thompson
Make the Road New York (MRNY) applauded Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson for the arrest of Brooklyn business owner Samuel Just, who allegedly stole his workers’ wages.
Alleged victims included a worker who MRNY referred to the DA’s office earlier this year. Just, who owns Just Clean on Myrtle Avenue, was charged with a scheme to defraud and failure to pay wages to at least five workers who worked for his cleaning business.
Workers allege wage theft including not being paid for almost three months, even for times they worked more than 16-hour shifts, and getting checks that were short pay for time worked and that bounced.
“Make the Road New York commends DA Thompson for taking this strong action to hold this wage thief accountable for his misdeeds. We referred a case (Victim’s name withheld) to the DA earlier this year, and we greatly appreciate the DA’s swift response to the abuse of our client. Unscrupulous bosses in New York all too often take advantage of immigrant workers, and criminal prosecution is the clearest sign that public officials are committed to strong enforcement,” said Elizabeth Joynes, MRNY Supervising Attorney.
Richardson Besieged By Constituent Tenants With Lease Issues
Crown Heights/Lefferts Gardens Assemblywoman Diana Richardson said in a Facebook post yesterday her district office is being besieged with constituents that rent that are having issues with their landlords.
“Sometimes I write post….and after I read them back I say “No Diana, don’t say that…you are an elected” and I delete them…but my god…I’m a person first,” wrote Richardson. “So with the deepest of my heart I’ll say this: I know our housing situation is really a crisis. If you need help please call me. Before you sign your new / renewal lease let my office look at it. Case after case after case is insane. People often ask me: “what is the hardest part of the job”? I’ll answer you in public: “Watching people loose their homes”.
Richardson urges any constituent with a housing issue to call her office at 718-771-3105.
