State Senator Martin Golden, in collaboration with the Southwest Brooklyn Parks Task Force, sponsored a concert last night in Bay Ridge.

About 100 people gathered in the park on 79th Street and Shore Road to listen to On A Good Run perform classic rock favorites, such as Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire”.

The concert drew mainly an older crowd with a smattering of young families, as well as their dogs, joining in on the fun.

The night started off with a game and a t-shirt giveaway. Water bottles and raffle tickets were being sold, with all proceeds going to the Southwest Brooklyn Parks Task Force, possibly for new canopies and tables in the parks.

Golden, a member of the New York State Senate Committee on Aging, had just returned from his annual senior boat ride event, where he joined seniors on a New York Harbor cruise. Golden noticed that the flag pole in the park was empty and said he would contact the Parks Department about flying an American flag and a P.O.W. flag.

Golden encouraged the crowd to stop by Skinflint’s after the show, a Bay Ridge restaurant celebrating its 40th anniversary

The concert was one of 15 that Golden is sponsoring throughout his district this summer, featuring a variety of bands including Head Over Heels, Carl Thomas, Generation Gap and Bobby Valli. The Canny Brothers will perform during a special event called “Irish Night on Shore Road”.
