Tremaine Wright For Assembly Fundraiser
In Bedford-Stuyvesant, where respect for political elders is not taken lightly, Tremaine Wright will have a fundraiser tomorrow night for her expected 2016 run for the 56th Assembly District seat that Assembly member Annette Robinson now holds.
Robinson represented Bed-Stuy in the City Council from 1992-2001 until she was term-limited out and then swapped seats with former longtime Assemblyman and City Councilman Al Vann in 2002.
Wright is a lifelong community resident and is actively involved in local politics. She currently chairs Community Board 3, is an active member of the Vanguard Independent Democratic Association (VIDA), and is an attorney who took classes under President Obama when he taught and and she attended the University Of Chicago Law School.
Additionally, Wright owns and operates the popular Common Grounds coffee shop on Tompkins Avenue, which is a welcoming place for discourse on a variety of tops and the arts .
Wright had planned to run against Robinson in 2014, when strong rumors had it that she was retiring, but after she announced she was running for re-election again, Wright withdrew out of respect to Robinson.
The fundraiser is set for tomorrow night in Williamsburg.
