Bushwick/Williamsburg City Councilman Antonio Reynoso, today, thanked Uber for offering good transportation deals to weekend commuters stranded between Williamsburg and Manhattan because of the L train shutdown of service.
Over the past 3 three weekends, uberPOOL had flat rates of $5 between Williamsburg and Manhattan. And in the final two weeks starting tonight of the shutdown, the shared economy company is lowering the flat rate to $2.75.
“I’ve heard many concerns from my constituents, especially people who work on the weekends and small business owners, about the economic impact of the weekend L shutdowns. I want to thank Uber for providing an affordable alternative for those who depend on the train,” Reynoso told the UberBlog.
The flat rates will run between 11:30 p.m. on Fridays until 5 a.m. on Mondays, from May 8 – May 18.
The deal comes as Uber celebrated its’ fourth year in New York City this week, and serving Brooklyn and the outer boroughs is a big part of their business.
“Over the last four years, Uber has helped create a more progressive transportation system in New York City with nearly a third of our trips servicing the outer-boroughs,” said Uber New York General Manager Josh Mohrer. “Our driver-partners make this success possible while earning double per hour what cab drivers make – since we launched our driver partners have made a total of over 750 million dollars. We can’t wait to see what the next four years bring,”
