Greenfield’s Two Big Days In The Field

Midwood City Councilman David Greenfield was in Bay Ridge, yesterday on behalf of advocates who want a half-day pre-kindergarten program instead of the universal full-day Pre-K that the de Blasio Administration is touting.

While the administration released the Request for Proposals (RFP) for half-day pre-K slots in the upcoming school year on Friday, it refused to specify how many slots were open.

“It’s a little bit bizarre what’s being happening in the city as it relates to universal pre-K. One one hand, we are telling all parents if you want full-day pre-K you can get it, but many parents say we either don’t want or can’t use full-day pre-K. Instead they want half-day pre-K, and the option we are giving them is full-day pre-K or nothing,” Greenfield told reporters. “It’s been a very long struggle and a disappointing trek until this very point.”

Today, Greenfield will be in Borough Park to kick-off a program with the Doe Fund, a non-profit that provides homeless people with social services including work cleaning the streets.

The event is slated for 2 p.m., today, May 7 at the corner of 45th Street and 16th Avenue, Borough Park

Mosley On Shootings Outside Popular Fort Greene Eatery

Fort Greene Assemblyman Walter Mosley, yesterday, said the NYPD is actively seeking the perpetrator that shot two people outside the Habana Outpost on Fulton Street.

The shooting occurred this past weekend at about 8 p.m. leaving two injured, according to police.

The victims included a 17-year-old boy, who was shot in the hip and a 23-year-old woman who was grazed in the shoulder. Both are expected to recover and the case remains open.

WalterMosley“My prayers go out to everyone affected by this occurrence – especially to the two victims who were injured and their families. As we all know to very well, youth-on-youth violence greatly undermines the fabric of any community. In cases such as this we shall reflect and plan productive ways to mitigate violent acts within our communities and neighborhoods,” said Mosley.

“An act such as this will not go unpunished and lawful measure will be taken to ensure safety for the people. As I continue to have ongoing briefings and updates as it relates to this matter, I am confident that the NYPD is doing everything in its power to ensure the safety of the community while they seek to bring the perpetrator to justice.”

Squadron Calls GOP On Carpet For Keeping Skelos

Northern Brooklyn State Senator Daniel Squadron, yesterday, released the following statement regarding the Republican Majority’s refusal to allow a vote on his motion to remove Senator Skelos as leader of the State Senate in today’s legislative session.

Skelos and his son were recently indicted on corruption charges.

“Today’s actions by the Senate Majority caused dysfunction in the house. I’ve been involved in a lot of floor fights, but today we saw a new way to undermine democracy. No one disputes that the Majority rules, and that’s how order is maintained in the Senate chamber. But it’s shocking for a vote on the presiding officer’s ruling to be refused.

Today was about the ability of the Senate leader to perform his role with integrity, and to maintain the trust of the members of the house, and more importantly, the people of New York State. That trust has been deeply compromised.”
