New York City Public Advocate Letitia James, State Senator Simcha Felder, Assemblymembers Dov Hikind & David Weprin and Councilmembers Chaim Deutsch and Brad Lander were on hand to cut the ribbon for a new home for women with developmental disabilities on Sunday in Borough Park
The Women’s League state-of-the-art residence is located at 601 Dahill Road.
Women’s League Community Residences was established in 1978, by Jeanne Warman, when seven young men ended years of rejection, institutionalization, and uncertainty by rejoining their community of birth. A home for men with developmental disabilities had been built, and these seven ‘pioneers’ were its first residents.
This was the beginning of Women’s League Community Residences, which has a growing number of residences serving people with disabilities.
Special recognition was given to Felder, who not only allocated state funding towards the Women’s League new home, but who has displayed great compassion for individual with developmental disabilities.
