Working Families Party Candidate Diana Richardson, this week, picked up two more key endorsements this week and unrolled a e-newsletter as she ramps up her campaign for the open 43rd Assembly District seat.
Among those endorsing Richardson include the 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East union, and which works very closely with the WFP.
“1199 SEIU is proud to endorse Diana Richardson for Assembly,” said George Gresham, President of the 75-year-old Union. “Diana’s dedication to the residents of this community is evident in the work she does with at-risk youth and in championing issues that are of concern to working families of this city and state. Her vocal advocacy on behalf of an underserved population makes her the best candidate for this Assembly seat.”
“I am proud to have the support of this esteemed union whose members do the noble work of caring for the sick, the infirmed and the elderly,” said Richardson. “It is great to know that the work I have done in the community is being recognized not only for my ability to fight for the residents of the 43rd District but my will and strong desire to change the way business is done in Albany.”
Also throwing their support behind Richardson is The Haitian American Association for Political Action (HAPPA) PAC, which is chaired by Rubain Dorancy, who ran unsuccessfully against State Sen. Jesse Hamilton last year with the same strong WFP and most the Democratic Party progressives support.
“Diana‘s vision, energy, and firm grasp of the issues make her more than qualified to represent the 43rd Assembly District in Albany,” said Dorancy. “We need progressive leadership to stand up for us in the Assembly to ensure passage of the Dream Act for undocumented students, an increase in the minimum wage for struggling New Yorkers, and real housing reform that protects tenants and keeps communities together.”
“I am encouraged by the support of those who work closely with the diverse communities that make up the 43rd Assembly District,” said Richardson. “As a person with immigrant parents, I believe that I am the candidate who will demonstrate the same level of attention, concern, and active engagement when dealing with the unique issues relevant to all the immigrant communities that make up the 43rd Assembly District. I am happy to partner with HAPPA-PAC and other immigrant groups to achieve these ends.”
While the union and Haitian community support was expected, just as important was the roll out of the Richardson Report, a monthly based e-newsletter, which is chock full of important upcoming community meetings and events.
The proactive newsletter utilizes digital technology that has fast become crucial in reaching constituents in this day and age. Ironically, it also includes several events that Borough President Eric Adams is hosting. Adams is putting strong support behind female Democratic District Leader Shirley Patterson.
Also in the race is male Democratic District Leader Geoffrey Davis and Republican Menachem (Mendy) Raitport.
The district includes Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Lefferts Gardens and Wingate. The special election is May 5.
