North Brooklyn City Councilman Antonio Reynoso and 50th Democratic Assembly District leader Nick Rizzo were among six arrested, yesterday, during a large protest against the increasing gentrification in Williamsburg and Bushwick.

Specifically, the protest was against the closing of the Bushwick United Head Start on Manhattan Avenue and the possible eviction of both the Small World Day Care/Swinging 60s Senior Center, 211 Ainslie Street, and the Nuestros Niños Day Care Center, 384 S. 4th Street.

The protest blocked off streets and drew more than 400 people who decried private developers and the de Blasio administration for turning its back on campaign promises to stem the gentrification tide.

Reynosos, Rizzo and the protesters want the de Blasio administration to take the properties from the developers under eminent domain laws  and utilize them as community spaces.

As pedestrians blocked the street, police gave warning before moving in and making the arrests peacefully. Reynoso and Rizzo were charged with disorderly conduct and blocking traffic.
