U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries announced that the New York School Construction Authority will receive about $16 million in federal funds to reimburse for permanent repairs made to the K276 Louis Marshall School in Canarsie.
The school incurred extensive damages from Superstorm Sandy involving flood damage to the basement. The NYCSCA is using the funding toward contractors for the replacement of two boilers, boiler auxiliary systems, fuel systems and pneumatic controls and reducing pipe insulation.
“There is no better federal investment than one that helps educate students in a safe and learning-friendly environment,” said Schumer. “The Louis Marshall School in Brooklyn was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy and these funds will help reimburse the cost of repairs to this school in a way that does not leave local taxpayers footing the bill.”
“Bringing schools back online after Sandy played a key role in helping kids, families, and neighborhoods recover. Thank you to Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, and Congressman Jeffries for helping to secure funding for those vital repairs at the Louis Marshall School and beyond. We’ll continue to partner as we build back a stronger and more resilient New York City,” said de Blasio.
