GOP Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan today picked up endorsements of the NYPD Captain Endowments Association and the NYPD Lieutenants Benevolent Association in his bid for the open 11th District Congressional seat straddling Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn.
Meanwhile, Democratic City Councilman Vinnie Gentile wrote an op-ed in the Huffington Post decrying the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement that he alleges is a backroom deal that will cost America tens of thousands of jobs.
“In the middle of the night, under the cloak of darkness, in a smoky backroom somewhere deep underground, the United States is hammering out a deal with Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam, and Brunei to create the largest trade agreement ever,” wrote Gentile.
“The TPP masquerades as a “free-trade” agreement when in reality its designed to make it even easier for colossal corporations to ship American jobs overseas by dismantling organized labor, undercutting workers’ rights and shirking environmental regulations,” the lawmaker added.
Donovan’s endorsement came on Staten Island where Roy Richter, President of the Captains Endowment Association lauded Donovan as a man who never forgets his middle-class roots and the true meaning of public service.
“I’m so honored to have the support of the Captains and Lieutenants Associations,” said Donovan. “I have enormous respect for the men and women who put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe. Our city continues to be the number one terrorist target in the world and we must ensure our law enforcement has the resources it needs to protect us from another attack.”
