The National Republican Campaign Committee today attacked City Councilman and Democratic candidate for the upcoming 11th District Congressional election Vincent Gentile for being a no show at a a City Council hearing, the Observer reports.
“Hey, does anyone know where Vinny Gentile is today? Perhaps he was snowed in? Maybe he’s at the airport to welcome Brandon Marshall to New York? Or was he just too busy campaigning for another job?” asked NRCC Spokeman Ian Prior in an email.
“Well, wherever he is, Vinny was NOT at today’s budget hearing being held by the NYC Council’s Committee on Consumer affairs, of which he is a member,” Mr. Prior added.
Gentile reportedly was not the only council member missing from the five-member consumer affairs committee. Only the chairman of the committee, Brooklyn Councilman Rafael Espinal, and Queens Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras were present.
A Gentile spokesman would not reveal Gentile’s whereabouts to the media outlet.
“It is telling that on the same week Dan Donovan was publicly criticized for his allegiance to the national Republican party, their national press secretary begins to start doing his dirty work for him,” the spokesperson told the Manhattan-based outlet. “His newfound partisan pit bull should keep barking in Washington because New Yorkers want results not rhetoric.”
His Republican opponent is Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan. The special election is May 5.
