When it comes to politics in southern Brooklyn and garnering the Russian-American vote all roads lead to Davidzon Radio and through the station’s enigmatic Founder, President and CEO Gregory Davidzon.
As such many of the city and borough’s elected officials and community leaders were on hand last week at Brooklyn’s Orion Palace to celebrate Davidzon Radio’s 10th Anniversary.
Davidzon Radio (WSNR 620 AM) is the largest Russian language radio station outside of Russia. Its broadcast schedule provides listeners throughout the New York City tri-state area, as well as the Boston region, with talk, entertainment, political and news programming. Davidzon Radio is New York City’s only Russian language radio station that can be heard on every radio, the Internet and smart phone.
Among the officials on hand included City Comptroller Scott Stringer, Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson, Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan, Jr., State Senators Marty Golden and Simcha Felder, Assemblyman William Colton, City Councilmen David Greenfield, Mark Treyger and Chaim Deutsch, as well as Kings County Democratic Chairman Frank Seddio.
In addition to the elected officials who participated in the festivities many expressed their congratulations, sent best wishes or issued proclamations including Senator Chuck Schumer, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Borough President Eric Adams, State Senator Diane Savino, Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein and Councilman Vincent Gentile.
Among the community leaders joining in the celebration were Democratic District Leaders Ari Kagan, 45th Assembly District (A.D.), Rita Kagan, 45th A.D., Jacob Gold, 44th A.D., Mark Davidowitz, 46th A.D., and Nancy Tong, 47th A.D., as well as Republican District Leaders Boris Pincus, 45th A.D. and Marcus Nussbaum, 46th A.D.
“Success can be measured in a many of ways,” Davidzon said. “Yes, Davidzon Radio has a large, responsive audience, but what is most important is that we are able to affect lives. Russian speaking New Yorkers keep informed about what’s happening through Davidzon Radio’s news and information programming by tuning in daily.”
Davidzon noted that during the chaos following Superstorm Sandy, vital potentially lifesaving, information was broadcast over the station’s airwaves. Last summer, when Israel was the target of daily rocket attacks, an on-air appeal for contributions to enable Israeli towns to build additional bomb shelters raised more than $40,000,” he said.
I am proud to say that over the past decade Davidzon Radio has made a difference in our community and I pledge that we will continue to be there for the community in the decades to come,” he added.
The party’s festivities included Russian and American musical favorites, both Russian and Kosher delicacies and lively dancing. Opera singer and daughter of Gregory Davidzon, Natalia Davidzon, performed a selection of operatic and popular songs.
