Electeds Pay Tribute to NYPD
City Councilmembers David Greenfield, Brad Lander and Carlos Menchaca as well as Sen. Simcha Felder braved the cold rain yesterday in leading a gathering of community leaders from the Boro Park, Bensonhurst and Midwood area in a show of show support for the police in light of the execution-style murders of Police Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos this past Saturday.
The event took place in front of the 66th Precinct, which covers Boro Park and parts of Midwood, Kensington and Bensonhurst.
“Police are our family. I tell my kids, if you are ever lost, if you ever have a problem you can go to a relative or a police officer,” said Greenfield. “I don’t know every one of the 35,000 police officers in New York, but I do know that when they put on the uniform every day they are risking their lives to protect us.”
“We all mourn the loss of two of New York City’s Finest who were killed in the line of duty. Police Officers Liu and Ramos made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Felder. “We extend our deepest condolences to their families, and to their fellow officers throughout the New York City Police Department.”

De Blasio arrived with first lady Chirlane McCray Tuesday morning. While de Blasio stood silently with his head bowed, McCray placed flowers among dozens of tributes at a memorial for Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.
The mayor and his wife did not respond to reporter’s questions as they left.
Mark-Viverito and Cornegy arrived later in the day.
