Republican Daniel Ramos announced he is currently gathering signatures to run against Democrat freshman incumbent Jo Anne Simon for the 52nd District Assembly Seat.
The 52nd district covers Brooklyn Height, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus and parts of Park Slope, Red Hook and Vinegar Hill.
Ramos needs 227 signatures of registered Republicans in the district to get on the ballot. He is also seeking the Conservative Party line..
A life-long Park Slope resident, Ramos is self-employed and owns Liberty Computing Center, but at the moment is a stay at home dad for his 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. He is also Treasurer of the Brooklyn Tea Party and a member of Community Board 6. In the past, he was awarded the 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Caribbean American Commerce and Industry, Inc. (CACCI), was adjunct faculty at Brooklyn College Adult and Continuing Education and Director of Technology Services at People Against Sexual Abuse, Inc.
Ramos’s main concern is the promotion of entrepreneurship and small businesses.
“The state can streamline the process of dealing with small business by providing them a quicker way to secure city and state contracts, lowering the burden of taxes, and excess fees.We also need to stop the pay to play practice within our cities,” said Ramos.
Ramos is also an advocate for reducing crime and the ability for citizens to defend themselves.
“I feel that good citizens should have the right to defend themselves with whatever tools they have at their disposal.”
During his time on the CB6, when the vote came up for transgenders being able to use the bathroom of the gender they identify with Ramos voted against it.
“I am scared I wouldn’t be able to console or protect my 7-year-old girl if she freaks out seeing a man in the restroom when I need to stand outside,” Ramos said.
Ramos would also like to address issues like the nickel bag tax, which he would like to see repealed.
