Brannan Allocates $275,000 for NYPD Surveillance Cameras

Justin Brannan
City Council Member Justin Brannan

City Councilman Justin Brannan (D-Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach) will allocate an additional $275,000 for 10 new Argus NYPD security cameras across the 43rd Council District which covers Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, as well as parts of Bath Beach and Bensonhurst.

This allocation will allow for 5 new locations to be covered by security cameras, with 2 cameras placed at each site for a total of 10 new cameras.

“Even though our neighborhoods continue to be some of the safest in the city, no constituent should have to wake up in the morning to their car having been rummaged through, or be kept up all night with incessant racing down the street,” said Brannan. “These cameras will be another tool in our enforcement and prevention toolbox, so that we can identify the small number of people engaging in these acts, and put a stop to their behavior.”

According to the 68th and 62nd Precincts, the majority of crimes the district is seeing right now are related to “handle surfers.”  These perpetrators prey on neighborhoods that are known to be safe because they know people may be more likely to forget to lock their car doors at night. These are 100% crimes of convenience.
