Frontus to Unveil 6-Point Economic Mobility Plan

Mathylde Frontus
Assembly Member Mathylde Frontus

Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus (D-Coney Island, Bath Beach, Bay Ridge, Brighton Beach, Gravesend) is launching a 6-point economic mobility plan focused on home ownership, job training, financial planning, entrepreneurship, cooperative economics and community investment.

Where economic development initiatives  have often favored large, high-cost and high-profile projects that attract wealthy investors, Frontus said building a financial infrastructure in underserved areas will enable economic mobility. The conditions of deeply distressed neighborhoods undermine individual efforts at economic advancement, Frontus said. The plan is meant to help residents generate income and build wealth.

“For most New Yorkers, the economic mobility we’re experiencing now is headed in the wrong direction,” Frontus said. “We’ve learned this lesson the hard way after the housing crisis and after Hurricane Sandy. Without a comprehensive plan to help those who have suffered economically during this crisis – many of whom were already struggling – families might never recover.”

Schumer Statement On Biden Nominating Criswell

ui8U.S. Senator Charles Schumer

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer issued the following statement on President-elect Joe Biden’s nomination of Deanne Criswell to serve as the Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator. Leader Schumer previously supported Ms. Criswell’s nomination for FEMA’s National Advisory Council:

“Deanne Criswell is an outstanding choice for FEMA administrator because she brings years of accomplished federal and state emergency management experience to this critical position. She is a dedicated public servant and an adept manager and will be instrumental in helping this country respond to and recover from the crises caused by the coronavirus pandemic. As our nation faces down the climate crisis, an experienced climate champion like Deanne Criswell as FEMA administrator puts our nation in a stronger place to mitigate and respond to increasingly severe natural disasters. Ms. Criswell is the first woman nominated to serve as administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and I am proud to support her historic appointment. I look forward to working with Ms. Criswell to ensure that the nation is prepared to respond to all future disasters.”

Colton Endorses Weprin for Comptroller

Assembly Member William Colton

Assemblyman William Colton (D – Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Dyker Heights) District Leader Charles Ragusa announced last Friday their endorsement for Assemblymember David Weprin (D-Queens) for New York City Comptroller.

“As an NYC Comptroller Mr. Weprin would have the responsibility for reviewing city contracts. Mr. Weprin has supported building more affordable housing for families rather than building more temporary homeless shelters as a real solution to the problem of homelessness. This commonsense approach to tackling problems will focus on real solutions rather than a temporary band-aid,” District Leader Ragusa has stressed.

“In these difficult budgetary times, we need a city Comptroller with practical experience in fighting for real services for the needs of neighborhood families and businesses and David Weprin will make an excellent Comptroller,” concluded Colton.
