Political operative and Bay Ridge activist Chris McCreight confirmed last night that he is dropping out of the 46th Assembly District race representing Coney Island, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and a slice of Brighton Beach.

McCreight, who is president of the Bay Ridge Democrats political club, informed the club of his decision at their monthly meeting last night at the Bridgeview Diner.

McCreight said his decision to drop out was because he didn’t want his candidacy to be a distraction to Democratic Congressional candidate Max Rose‘s bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Dan Donovan (R-Southern Brooklyn, Staten Island) or to Democratic State Senate Candidate Andrew Gounardes’ bid to unseat Sen. Marty Golden (R-Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach, Gravesend, parts of Sheepshead Bay, Borough Park, Midwood).

McCreight currently works as chief of staff for City Council Member Justin Brannan (D-Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhusrt, Bath Beach).

The seat is currently vacant following the resignation of former Assembly Member Pam Harris (D), who recently plead guilty to multi counts of felony corruption charges.

McCreight’s dropping out of the contest leaves Coney Island activist and educator Mathylde Frontus, and Brighton Beach/Coney Island resident and political activist Ethan Lustig-Elgrably battling it out in the Democratic Primary on Sept. 13.

The winner will take on Republican Candidate Steve Saperstein in the Nov. 6 general election.

In other news, Frontus reported that the banner sign above her campaign office at 1610 Mermaid Avenue was stolen this week. Frontus said she noticed it gone when she arrives at the office at around 11:30 a.m. this past Wednesday, July 11. She filed a police report.

Frontus said eyewitnesses report seeing a Caucasian male stepping on the garbage can and pulling it down. A local store with video cameras watched the tape and said the vandal had an accomplice who served as a look out and helped him get on the garbage can. According to the store owner who reviewed he video, both males were Caucasian, said Frontus.

“The 60th precinct will be reviewing the video footage and getting back to my campaign about what they find,” she said.
