LGBTQ+ Power Players: Lee Soulja, NYC Center for Black Pride

Performance artist, political activist, truth teller, educator, muse —- Lee Soulja (he/him) wears many different hats, and he looks fabulous in every one. Including the most recent addition: LGBTQ+ Power Player. In this interview, Lee reflects on how far the Center for Black Pride has come after 25 years, what’s changed, and the work still unfinished. He describes performance and dance as disruptive to the typically vicelike grip of normative control, and articulates in his frank yet stubbornly hopeful way why political mobilization remains as important as ever.
